A 16-year-old, identified as Benjamin Lehman of Nappanee, died early Sunday morning in a tragic incident.
It happened around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, when a car slid off State Road 5 near County Road 750 South, becoming stuck in a ditch.
In an attempt to assist, the driver of a pickup truck used a tow strap across the road to pull the stranded car out of the ditch. However, another pickup truck, trying to pass between the car and the truck, collided with the strap — resulting in the teen, who had been standing at the scene, being struck by the passing truck.
