Republicans say Democratic lawmakers hurried through clean energy legislations, new laws are not enough

From a mandate for 100% clean energy by 2040 to a new permitting system for large-scale wind and solar projects, Michigan entered 2024 with multiple new energy laws.

However, Republicans say Democratic lawmakers hurried through clean energy legislations without addressing grid reliability issues that have caused many power outages throughout the state.

Bridge Michigan says clean energy advocates complained the new laws catered to utility needs while leaving out policies that would help everyday residents benefit from renewable energy.

As lawmakers return to work this month, they face pressure as they look to go over energy issues that were excluded in last year’s package.
