Possible homeless intake center for South Bend tabled at meeting

A proposed homeless intake center on South Bend’s northwest side is on hold following a Redevelopment Commission meeting on Thursday.

A vote had been set to determine whether to buy an unused 5-acre plot of land from the South Bend Community School Corporation north of their bus garage off of Bendix Drive. Opponents are bringing up safety concerns and neighborhood impacts.

The Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously to table the Bendix option to allow for more public input.
