BBB warns of Valentine’s Day love scammers

If you’re looking for Valentine’s Day love on a dating app this season, the BBB is warning you to watch out for scammers who only love your money.

Scammers are using people to funnel stolen money out of the country, and while it may look like a classic romance scam, victims are being tricked into illegal activity and can be prosecuted.

The BBB says the scam works when you meet somebody who seems great on a dating app, but then they ask for your help with receiving money and wiring it overseas.

They may claim to be helping a loved one or representing a charitable organization, but the money is actually stolen and the scammers are looking for victims to help make it harder for authorities to trace.

They say to do your research when you start talking to somebody new. Ask specific questions about the person, and never send money or personal information to someone you’ve never met in person. For more tips, visit the BBB website.
