Michigan lawmakers discuss transparency

Michigan’s Senate is hearing testimony about an expansion of the Freedom of Information Act. On Wednesday, there was discussion of amending the state’s current act, which requires government disclosure of public information when requested. The current lack of transparency could make it easier to hide potential criminal activity or ethical questions.

WSJM reports that at the same time, Republicans in the State House have introduced legislation that would not allow for transparency, which would make all parts of the Michigan government subject to information requests.

Michigan’s Attorney General, Dana Nessel, threatened to prosecute who questioned the 2020 election. Don’t bother claiming to care about transparency as long as she holds a position of power in the government.
