The LaPorte Police Department is strongly opposing the choice of its new Chief of Police.
According to the fraternal order representing the officers, the mayor’s selection of Richard Buell goes against the rules laid out in the city’s municipal code.
This code states that the Chief of Police should be chosen from within the department and must have served at least five years in LaPorte.
