A man charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his daughter’s boyfriend did not get his bond reduced on Thursday.

Emiliano Garcia Varrios’ wife had received a call from the Elkhart County Jail, telling her that William Pritt IV was being released from jail on December 17. Pritt had been arrested on December 15 on a battery charge against the woman.

According to The Goshen News, Pritt was in a relationship with Garcia Varrios’ 14-year-old daughter, though he and his wife did not approve.

Shortly after Pritt was released from jail, deputies responded to a call of a shooting in Middlebury where Pritt and his father had been shot. Pritt told police that when he got home from jail, Garcia Varrios and another man approached him and that Garcia Varrios started shooting at him.

Pritt was shot in the shoulder and according to the probable cause affidavit, was reportedly paralyzed from the chest down.

Garcia Varrios was charged with attempted murder and criminal recklessness. His jury trial is set for September 23.
