Support sought to help pay for dredging the St. Joseph River mouth

The St. Joseph Commissioners have been asked for more support dredging the mouth of the St. Joe River.

On Monday, Berrien County Community Development Director Dan Fette told commissioners that local marinas and charter boat captains have reached out to him about areas of the river that could be unmanageable this summer without dredging.

WSJM reports that Fette feels the county is not in a position to pay for the process this summer, and the same is true of the city. Fetty says marinas and dock owners may need to pool resources to pay for dredging, but due to state restrictions time is running out to arrange it.
