An Elkhart man was sentenced to 30 months for sexual misconduct with a minor.

31-year-old Luis Vasquez Sanches was originally charged with burglary, sexual misconduct with a minor, criminal confinement, attempted child molestation and attempted kidnapping.

According to the Goshen News, Elkhart police were called to a Franklin Street apartment in early September on a trespassing call.

Vasquez Sanches had allegedly broken in through the back door intoxicated and told an eight-year-old girl that he was going to take her to his country while touching her. He reportedly claimed responsibility for the incident during his sentencing hearing, though he stated that it was due to heavy intoxication.

Through a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 30 months with the Indiana Department of Corrections, though only 300 days will be served at the Elkhart County Jail with the rest being served on probation.
