Plans for a public outdoor amphitheater in downtown Elkhart saw $20 million exit the plans last week.

The City of Elkhart sees the development attracting A-list talent and boosting the local economy, but according to ABC 57, a nonprofit announced on Thursday that it will be pulling out of the project and pulling its financial support, too.

Lori Harris, President and CEO of the Elkhart AMP group, stated that the decision was not made lightly, but that the trust they imparted to the City of Elkhart has not been returned in kind and that they are no closer to a development agreement now than they were last July.

Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson stated that he continues his excitement about the idea and that the project is an extraordinary opportunity for Elkhart’s downtown. He says they will continue to work to achieve the goals for the project.
