One person has been arrested after an armed robbery at the Dollar General store in the 4100 block of West Western Avenue.

The heist happened around 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15.

When officers arrived on-scene, they were provided a description of both the suspect and his unique, “western-style” firearm.

Through their investigation, officers quickly located a male matching the suspect’s description in the 2100 block of Oliver Street.

A search warrant was granted for his vehicle and several pieces of evidence were collected, including a firearm matching the description noted by witnesses.

The suspect, Parnell Nelson, 53, was arrested on several preliminary charges. He was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, where he awaits a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

Our currency has been so devalued, why even bother to rob a dollar store? Go rob a $5 store or hold out for a $10 store.
