Suspect wanted on federal warrant shot by Michigan State Police trooper in Benton Harbor

A Michigan State Trooper shot a suspect in Benton Harbor.

It was around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, when officers attempted a traffic stop in the area of Monroe and Emery Avenue.

A Michigan State Police Trooper and an officer from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, approached the vehicle and discovered the driver was wanted on a federal warrant.

They tried to get him out of the vehicle and into custody, but the suspect put the vehicle in reverse and styruck the Benton Harbor Officer.

The Michigan State Trooper then fired his gun, hitting the suspect twice.

The suspect was treated at the hospital, then brough to the Berrien County Jail.
