The Penn Harris Madison school board has given the green light to a contract valued at approximately 16 million dollars for the construction of the Penn Kingsman fieldhouse.
Upon completion, the facility spanning 55 thousand square feet will boast four indoor courts, a six-lane 200-meter track, training rooms, two classrooms, and bleacher seating accommodating up to 800 spectators.
Construction is slated to commence soon and should be done with minimal disruption to the high school.
The whole project should be complete by the 2025-26 school year.

Where are they putting this debacle?

Also, there are about 11,500 students in the PHM district. Assuming this is going to be used district-wide and not just for the students at Penn, that comes out to almost $1400 PER STUDENT. For some basketball courts and a track, none of which will truly offer any educational value.

If you do the math for only the 3,800 students at Penn itself it comes to $4,200 PER PENN STUDENT.

Please tell me how in the world this boondoggle should be considered to be even remotely a good thing? Can anyone on the Penn board do math?
