Suspect dead after police pursuit, crash, officer-involved shooting near Benton Harbor

One person is dead after a police pursuit and crash that ended in an officer-involved shooting.

Officers in St. Joseph Charter Township responded, on Monday evening, April 9, to a welfare check for a semi-driver in the Fairplain area.

The 42-year-old driver from Tennessee allegedly crashed into a patrol vehicle, then fled and crashed into a home on Riverbend Drive.

During the pursuit, an altercation ensued, leading to the suspect being shot by an officer. The suspect died at Corewell Health Spectrum Hospital.

The officer involved sustained injuries but is expected to recover and is on paid leave.

Michigan State Police is conducting the investigation.

I saw a SJCT cop smoking down Niles Ave last night. I knew it had to be something because I never see them driving that fast unless another cop has called for backup. Well stupid is as stupid does as far as the perpetrator goes.
