Nominations for The Big Trees of St. Joseph County now being accepted

Nominations for The Big Trees of St. Joseph County are now being accepted.

It’s a list of the largest of each of our native tree species, and program coordinator Amal Farrough is looking forward to reviewing this year’s nominations.

Nominations are being accepted, and area naturalists will verify nominations in the fall.

Categories output current champions include Red Oak, Black Walnut, Sugar Maple and Eastern Red Cedar.

Farrough says while it is fun to see champion big trees win multiple years in a row, it is also great to see new larger champions.
