The US Department of Justice has agreed to pay nearly $139 million to more than 100 victims of sports doctor Larry Nassar.

The payout is for knowing of his abuse but failing to step in for more than a year. The FBI had key information in 2015, a year before the images of child sex abuse by the former doctor were revealed.

The settlement is in addition to the $500 million that Michigan State University agreed to pay to the victims as the university missed opportunities to put a stop to Nassar over several years.

More than 300 victims have been identified, including Olympians Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and McKayla Maroney. Nassar pleaded guilty in 2017.
