A woman has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash, back in February, in LaPorte County.
Officers say 40-year-old Lashea Bird was driving a vehicle on US 20. Kendra Murphy was a passenger in the vehicle with Bird, when the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree on the northwest corner of US 20 and Wilhelm Road.
Bird sustained an upper body injury in the crash while Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.
In March, the LaPorte County Circuit Court judge issued a sealed arrest warrant for Bird for three counts of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.
Authorities then learned Bird fled to Texas. Fast forward to two weeks ago — a U.S. Marshals Service Taskforce in Tarrant County, Texas captured Bird, who waived extradition to be extradited back to LaPorte County where she’s being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
