Michigan City Police took one man into custody after LaPorte County Dispatch received multiple calls about a person with a shotgun.

It happened just before 7:30 Tuesday evening when police were notified of a person holding a shotgun while having a verbal argument with other people.

36-year-old Chad Topa was found with the loaded weapon, though authorities were able to de-escalate the situation and gained possession of the shotgun.

The investigation shows that Topa was having a verbal argument with people, with evidence showing that the shotgun had been discharged toward two people involved in the altercation.

However, no one involved was struck by the gunfire. Topa was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Attempted Aggravated Battery.

His initial court appearance is set for May 28.
