Two people found dead inside Goshen home after SWAT standoff ID’d

The two people found dead inside a home in Goshen have been identified. They are 30-year-old Sabrina Leib and 36-year-old Elisha Smith. Police were called on Wednesday afternoon after receiving notice about a victim with an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. When they arrived, officers were made aware of a man and 2 young children in the home. The man displayed a weapon and as officers retreated, they removed both children. The SWAT team eventually entered the home to find the two people dead.

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE FROM GOSHEN POLICE: 

At 3:45 pm Wednesday May 22, Goshen police were dispatched to Huron St after receiving notice about a victim with an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers were made aware of a male subject and 2 young children in the home. The male subject displayed a weapon and as officers retreated, they removed both children. Officers began communication with the male and due to the circumstances, the Elkhart County Regional SWAT team was called in to assist. Negotiators worked diligently to resolve the situation. After losing communication with the male subject, the Elkhart County Regional SWAT team entered the home to find 2 deceased persons, an approximately 36-year-old female and an approximately 41-year-old male. The names are being withheld until next of kin can be notified. There are no further details at this time. All additional information will be released by the Elkhart County Homicide Unit.
