South Bend fire crews battle residential fire on Cushing Street

The South Bend Fire Department responded to an early morning residential structure fire in the 800 block of Chushing Street. The call came in around 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11.

Upon arrival, crew could see flames showing to the 2nd story, outside eaves, at the back of the structure.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control to the 2-1/2 story home.

One resident safely exited the home and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

There was no report of injuries to firefighters on scene working the fire.

The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.
