Elkhart Ambulance Manufacturing company falls victim to catalytic converter theft

(Photo supplied/Elkhart Truth)

An Elkhart Ambulance Manufacturing company was the target of thieves over the weekend.

58 catalytic converters were reported stolen from cars and trucks at Medix Specialty vehicles, becoming the 7th reported incident and totaling at 128 stolen catalytic converters in Elkhart this year alone.

Thieves go after the converters because of the valuable metals they contain. It’s a crime that can be done quickly, though it can be difficult to notice when the theft happens.

To help prevent it happening to you, police recommend parking in well-lit areas with cameras nearby, and they recommend etching the VIN number into your catalytic converter.
