Everyone needs a little rest and relaxation from time to time, even the Indiana Fever and rookie guard Caitlin Clark.
The Fever’s last game before the Olympic Break was July 17. They don’t play again until August 16 against the Phoenix Mercury, but now they’re practicing and getting ready for the second half of the regular season with the hopes of making a playoff push. Their record is 11-15.
At practice Tuesday, Clark said the team needs to improve defensively.
“Obviously our offense is only going to continue to get better and better, but if we can get rid of seven points per game from the other team each game, I think we’ll be a lot better down the stretch. As far as the break goes, this refresh has been great. It’s something that I needed,” said Clark.
Clark says the pattern she’s noticed is that the team is winning more games whenever they allow less than 84 points per game. As for getting back into the swing of things, she says it’s been an adjustment for everyone.
“We’ve been going hard. This is a time for us to really get better and work on things that we need to. Sometimes we work out for two hours and then lift afterwards. I’ve been trying to work out on my own too,” said Clark.
Clark also said the team’s chemistry has gotten better and better ever since training camp.
“We’re starting to get on a roll and we are just adding steps to our progress so we can get better and better,” said Clark.
Clark has been the WNBA Rookie of the Month twice so far this year and is the fastest WNBA rookie to surpass 100 points and 50 assists. She did that in eight games.
