Police: Nurse drives to work w/five times the legal limit of alcohol in her system

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

A nurse in Michigan City is in jail after being caught drunk while driving.

Candice Vanwaardenburg slammed her car into a parked car on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

She had been on her way to a Franciscan Health hospital where she worked — and crashed in the hospital parking lot.

When the cops showed up they saw she was impaired and did field sobriety tests.

Imagine their surprise that she was still conscious since her blood-alcohol content was .416, which was five times the legal limit and a near-lethal amount of alcohol in her bloodstream.

I pray that Candice is freed of this addiction, and restored to her job saving lives.

Alcoholism is an illness. Have mercy on her. She made a very poor decision, not a mistake, but a decision. She will pay for it dearly. When she drives drunk, placing precious lives at risk, and destroying property, then she must face the judge, and pay for her crime. Under no circumstance should someone drink, drive, and go to work. She is in a position where she is supposed to save lives. She could have killed so many people that day. She MUST face justice for this. I pray she is healed from this, and that she can be restored to saving lives. I have a feeling that she won’t be employable in her field ever again, but I do not know.
