BCHD promoting infant safe sleep practices

It’s Baby Safety Month, and the Berrien County Health Department is promoting infant safe sleep practices.

They’re offering safe sleep tips, using the ABCs of safe sleep: alone, on its back and in a crib.

They say to keep the crib free of pillows, blankets, stuffed animals and other soft objects.

Use a sleep sack instead of a blanket to keep the baby warm, and do not let the baby sleep on an adult bed or on a couch or chair with anyone.

And, make sure to use a firm mattress with a tightly fitting sheet in the crib or bassinet.

The Health Department provides eligible households with a free portable crib through its Baby’s Own Bed program, so be sure to check with the department to see if you qualify.
