Three deputies with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department were honored with Lifesaving Awards.

The awards go to those who show quick action when it comes to saving lives.

The first award was given to Deputy Brian Root who, on January 1, responded to a fire in Niles and climbed to the second floor of the building to rescue a young girl who was hesitant about climbing the ladder.

The Lifesaving Award was also given to Deputy Dominic Forestieri who, on March 22, performed CPR and revived a young child after a crash in Niles.

Deputy Matt Grimm also received an award for his action in talking a suicidal man down from a roof while helping protect a woman and young child.

According to WSJM, Sheriff Chuck Heit stated that he is proud of the men’s actions.
