Inmate with ties to Michiana found dead in Allen County Jail cell

An autopsy is set for a man locked up on arrest warrants in LaGrange and Noble Counties after he was found dead in his jail cell.

It was early Monday morning when a jail nurse followed up on a medical check with 25-year-old Jose Velazquez Trejo.

State Police say Trejo had been dealing with what were believed to be symptoms caused by previous drug use.

After the morning check, the nurse began filing paperwork to have Trejo moved to a hospital for medical treatment.

But less than an hour later, Trejo was found unresponsive in his cell. He was eventually pronounced dead at despite life-saving attempts.
