With Election Night looming over the country, and the state of Indiana, Republicans and Democrats are making their last push to the end to try and sway as many voters as they can as they head to the polls.
The chairmen of both major political parties in Indiana both have a high amount of confidence heading into November 5th. Indiana GOP chairman Randy Head in particular believes the state will once again be one of the first to be called for former President Trump.
“Indiana is a strong state for Trump,” he told All Indiana Politics. “Earlier (2020) we were first on the board for Trump. I think we will be among the first again November 5th, and I think our down ballot races will be impacted by that in a big way.”
One of those down ballot races is, of course, the race for governor. Republican Mike Braun has been leading in most polls taken in the last few months over Democrat Jennifer McCormick. However, Democrats are eager to see the results of the governor’s race.
“I think Jennifer McCormick has run a brilliant campaign for governor,” said State Democratic Party chairman Mike Schmul. “A great night would be if Jennifer McCormick is the next governor of Indiana and the first woman governor. That would be a clear win.”
Schmul also thinks his party can take advantage of what he believes to be a chink in the armor of Republicans.
“Mike Braun did not win his party’s nomination by more than 40-percent,” Schmul said. “I don’t know if he’s consolidated the Republican Party enough just days before the election.”
Schmul believes Hamilton County will be a good barometer of the direction he thinks the state is moving with Democrats having garnered a bit more support there than in years past.
