The defense wrapped up its case Wednesday morning after calling over 20 witnesses in six days—about half the time the prosecution used.
Just after 9 am, as the jury entered, defense attorney Brad Rozzi announced, “The defense rests.” Prosecutor Nick McLeland then requested a sidebar with Judge Fran Gull, who briefly dismissed the jury due to some witnesses not being ready.
Judge Gull and the attorneys discussed jury instructions, including guidance on the defendant’s choice not to testify and handling prior statements. It was confirmed that Richard Allen would not take the stand.
Next, both sides will present closing arguments before the jury begins deliberations.
Allen is accused of killing Abby Williams and Libby German in Delphi back in 2017.
