I&M Power to lower St. Joseph River to winter water level

(Alyssa Foster/95.3 MNC)

I&M Power will begin lowering the water level upstream of the Elkhart Hydroelectric Plant on the St. Joseph River to its winter level on December 9.

The reservoir level will decrease by two feet to prevent ice buildup during the winter season.

I&M encourages residents to remove boats or perform work and cleanup activities along the riverbank while the reservoir is at its lower elevation if desired.
