With winter weather comes damage for homeowners, and with that damage comes scammers offering to help.
The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be cautious when looking to hire help.
They say to do your homework and visit their website to research the company before making a decision. Hire only licensed and insured contractors, and check your homeowners insurance to see what kind of repairs are covered under your policy.
Get multiple bids and seek referrals, and be sure to get and read a written contract.
Never pay the full amount up front, and have patience, because a good contractor is likely not going to be able to provide immediate service, especially with several people looking for help at once.
