Lawmakers in Michigan are working to pass police reforms during the lame-duck session.
The bills being pushed before the end of the year would establish “a duty to intervene,” restrict no-knock warrants, and more. Bridge Michigan reports that proposals in the past that were inspired by the 2020 police killing of George Floyd have stalled in the state Legislature.
The bills would also require police departments to check whether potential hires had previously been fired for misconduct, and make it a felony to tamper with body cameras.
