Residents near Yellow Creek are urging Elkhart County officials to halt a proposed chicken farm.

Some say they were approached for support, being given very limited details.

However, The Goshen News says residents soon after received a public notice from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management notifying them of the incoming farm.

Residents argue that their area in the county is not suited for the farm, which is expected to house 44,000 chickens.

Some in the area voiced concerns about contaminants including E. coli, antibiotics and pathogens in manure.

The farm does comply with zoning laws which allow up to 199,999 chickens on A1 properties with at least three acres, though neighbors are not on board with the project.
