A tip from concerned citizens led to the arrest of a convicted sex offender living illegally near daycare facilities in Michigan City.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan City Police Department received multiple reports that Nathan P. Dennis, 42, was residing in the 300 block of Lafayette Street without properly registering his address, as required by state law.

Detectives launched an investigation and discovered that Dennis, a convicted sex offender from Michigan, had failed to register his residency in LaPorte County. Authorities also found that his residence was located near several daycare centers, a violation of state regulations for sex offenders.

Based on the findings, Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Dennis on a Level 6 felony charge of violating the sex offender registry. The warrant was issued by LaPorte County Superior Court #4.

On Friday, Dec. 27, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team, in collaboration with the LaPorte County Drug Task Force, arrested Dennis without incident.

He was booked into the LaPorte County Jail and later released after posting a $755 cash bond.
