Suspicious substance investigated at County-City Building in downtown South Bend

UPDATE:  Initial tests have suggested the found substance is not a threat. Police and fire units are clearing the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY: The South Bend Police and Fire Departments were called on Wednesday, Jan. 8, on the report of the discovery of a suspicious substance at the County-City Building in downtown South Bend.

As a precaution, the sixth floor of the building has been evacuated as the investigation continues by SBFD’s HAZMAT Team.

One person has been transported to the hospital for evaluation.

This incident remains under investigation.

If you are planning to visit the County-City Building this afternoon, please be aware that emergency vehicles will be on-scene until the scene has officially cleared.
