Skid loader and SUV collide on County Road 42, injuring multiple people

A collision between a skid loader and an SUV on County Road 42 sent multiple people to the hospital with various injuries.

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, near the 15500 block of County Road 42. A 1998 Scat Trak skid loader was westbound and attempting to turn into a driveway when it was rear-ended by a 2015 Dodge Journey, also traveling westbound.

According to authorities, the operator of the skid loader, a 54-year-old Goshen woman, was returning home after transporting meat in the vehicle. The woman sustained neck pain and was transported to Goshen Hospital for evaluation.

The SUV, driven by a 33-year-old Millersburg man, sustained heavy front-end damage in the crash. The driver reported head and facial pain as well as a laceration to his thumb.

Three children were passengers in the SUV: a 10-year-old girl who reported ankle pain and seatbelt abrasions, a 9-year-old girl who experienced breathing difficulties, and a 5-year-old boy in a child safety seat who complained of neck pain and seatbelt abrasions. All were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The driver of the SUV told investigators he did not see the skid loader in time to avoid the collision. The skid loader reportedly lacked a slow-moving vehicle emblem, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
