St. Joseph County family alarmed by fake police encounter

A routine Sunday quickly turned unsettling for a St. Joseph County family.
It was around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, in the 56000 block of Elder Road, when video images from a Ring door bell camera show a man and woman approached the victim’s home.
The woman rang the doorbell, claiming to be police. When no one answered, the couple left, but not before the woman slashed a tire on the family’s vehicle.
The family shared their experience on social media.
They say the community helped identify the two, but they say they don’t know why they targeted us or what their motive was.
They contacted WSBT-TV to get the word out to help prevent the experience from happening to others.
St. Joseph County Police are investigating the incident.
