Cass County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the intersection of M-62 and Yankee Street in Jefferson Township.

According to investigators, a vehicle on M-62, driven by a 23-year-old Goshen man, left the roadway and struck a tree before re-entering the road, coming to rest in the southbound lane. A southbound vehicle, driven by a 26-year-old Vandalia man, swerved to avoid the first vehicle but veered off the road and also hit a tree.

The driver of the first vehicle was taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital with injuries, while the other driver was assessed by medics on the scene and released.

Authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor. The incident remains under investigation.
