This legislative session, you can help Hoosier lawmakers support veterans in need by participating in an “essentials” drive.
The Indiana House of Representatives is working with Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF) of Indiana to compile items for veterans experiencing homelessness. Donations will be collected at the Statehouse now through March.
Supplies that are being requested include food, clothes, and hygiene supplies, which can be deposited in donation bins outside the House Chamber on the third floor, or in the south atrium of the fourth floor. Financial donations are also encouraged.
These “essentials” will go to veterans who were displaced or affected by a destructive fire at an HVAF facility last October. About 500 Indiana veterans experience homelessness each year.
House Speaker Todd Huston says, “Our veterans devoted their lives to defending this state and country, and we must do everything we can to ensure they have the resources to thrive after their service.”
