A Lake County resident may be facing animal cruelty charges.

Indiana State Police were notified of a Facebook post of an SUV pulling an open utility trailer containing a kennel, with a dog inside, that was unsecured to the trailer.

The vehicle was traveling on I-80/94 from the Illinois state line when a 911 call was made to report the situation and the dog’s distressed appearance.

A detective immediately initiated an investigation, and the canine was located at a Gary residence where they were able to secure the dog.

The 37-year-old owner is not currently in custody, though he will be identified if charges are approved.
