Lawmakers are split along party lines when it comes to their support or admonishment of the Department of Government Efficiency, also known as “DOGE”.
The department is being led by billionaire Elon Musk and is tasked with finding what it deems to be wasteful spending within the federal government. So far DOGE has cut millions upon millions of dollars in federal spending.
“We’ve needed someone to come in with forensic accounting and take a deep dive and look at federal government spending,” said Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.-3rd). “In this case with President Trump and Elon Musk, the federal government is getting the colonoscopy it has needed for a long time.”
The most notable cuts have come to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs as well as cuts to USAID programs. Many of these cuts also include many federal workers, many of whom have taken Trump’s buyout offer to resign while still receiving pay and benefits until September.
DOGE has also canceled several government contracts in the Government Services Administration and the Department of Education. In all the cutting of some contracts and leases has saved roughly an additional $200 million.
As of the end of January, DOGE has claimed to have saved the federal government roughly $1 billion per day.
Democrats have been furiously outspoken against many of the things that DOGE as done since being created by President Trump.
“DEI is helping everyone succeed,” said Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind-7th). “DEI programs effectively provide equal opportunities. Donald Trump wants to create a workforce that is only loyal to him and his very extreme agenda.”
Carson added that he is not against the “spirit” of DOGE, but said he is not a fan of how it is being implemented under the Trump Administration.

Marlin…huzzah.
Andre…wonder what graft you are being cut off from.
“DEI programs effectively provide equal opportunities.”
Pound sand, Andre. DEI is institutionalized racism, it just happens to be against people you don’t like so you are okay with it. Enough is enough.
