Communities around Michigan are sharing in nearly $100 million of the state’s marijuana tax revenue.

Three hundred and two municipalities will share in the revenue, which will include a first-time distribution to four federally recognized tribes. A total of $331 million was received in the 2024 fiscal year.

Berrien County will receive more than $1.5 million, including $407,000 for Niles, $349,000 each for Buchanan and New Buffalo, and nearly $233,000 in Benton Harbor.

Money is also headed to Cassopolis, Decatur, Eau Claire, Edwardsburg, and Three Oaks.

Michigan put more than $116 million into the School Aid Fund for K-12 education, and $116 million in into the state’s Transportation Fund, as well.

Sin taxes are abhorrent.

The tax code is there to raise revenue, not control behavior. Pass laws if you want to do that…
