Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 40 and County Road 21, according to authorities.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, when an 18-year-old driver from Elkhart was traveling south on CR 21 in a 2014 Buick Verano. The driver stopped at the intersection but proceeded into the path of an eastbound 2015 Mini Cooper Countryman on CR 40, which had the right of way.
The Mini Cooper, driven by a 42-year-old Elkhart resident, struck the passenger side of the Buick, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and come to rest in a field southeast of the intersection.
Two passengers in the Mini Cooper sustained injuries. A 39-year-old passenger complained of leg, back, and neck pain, while a 13-year-old passenger reported shoulder pain. Both were transported by EMS to Elkhart General Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
The driver of the Buick was cited for failure to yield, causing bodily injury. Authorities confirmed that all occupants were wearing seatbelts and that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and required towing.
