Several injured after explosion, fire at Lock Joint Tube in South Bend

An explosion at Lock Joint Tube in South Bend sent at least two people to the hospital.

Emergency crews responded to the facility on West Ireland Road around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12.

Firefighters arrived to find an active fire and quickly contained it.

Authorities say multiple people were injured, but most did not need hospitalization.

Two hours later, only one person remained hospitalized.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
