A Michigan City man died after being found unconscious near a crash site in rural LaPorte County.
Deputies were dispatched around 5:10 p.m. on Monday, April 14, to the 3600 north block of County Line Road after a passing motorist spotted a man lying on an access road just east of the roadway.
The man was identified as 50-year-old Nicholas E. Irvine. First responders administered life-saving measures at the scene before transporting him by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital.
During the investigation, Deputy Dylan Hisick located a yellow 2009 Chevrolet in a ditch in an agricultural field between County Road 1100 West and County Line Road, just south of CR 400 North. Authorities believe Irvine had been operating the vehicle before it left a nearby access road and crashed into the field.
Irvine was later pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death. Toxicology results are pending.
No further details have been released.
