An Elkhart woman will face 35 years in prison for the death of her baby.

24-year-old Alauraeve Allen was sentenced for neglect resulting in the death of her six-month-old daughter. Allen reportedly left the child in dangerous environments while participating in drug use.

The Goshen News says in July of 2023, the baby was found unresponsive with numerous visible injuries on her body and died the next day with an autopsy ruling the death a homicide.

Allen allegedly admitted to prior abuse, but the judge stated that her absence allowed for the fatal harm to happen.

She was sentenced for Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Catastrophic Injury to 30 years enhanced by five for a total sentence of 35 years.
