Indiana health officials are warning Hoosiers to protect themselves from ticks, which can transmit Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
To prevent bites, treat clothing and boots with permethrin when in grassy or wooded areas. They say to avoid applying it to skin.
After being outdoors, check yourself and pets for ticks. If you find one, use tweezers to remove it by pinching the body and head together.
