The City of Elkhart is proud to announce the arrival of a brand-new fire truck-an investment in public safety that only comes around every 15 to 20 years. To celebrate this milestone, the Elkhart Fire Department will hold a Push-In Ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m. at the Elkhart Fire Station 4.
This traditional event invites the community to help firefighters “push” the new engine into the station, honoring a long-standing fire service ritual that dates back to the days of horse-drawn fire equipment. When firefighters returned from a call, they had to push their equipment back into the bay-today, the tradition continues as a way to welcome a new apparatus into service.
The event is open to the public and will include family-friendly games, food, and a special appearance by Sadie, the beloved fire station dog. Ethos will also there with hands on engagement for children.
“This is more than just a celebration of a new truck-it’s a celebration of the community and our continued investment in keeping Elkhart safe. These trucks are only purchased every 15 -20 years. My administration is committed to ensuring that our public safety personnel are well equipped in order to provide unparalleled service to the City of Elkhart.” -Mayor Roberson
