Slate Auto plans to produce low-cost direct-to-consumer electric vehicles in a vacant factory in Warsaw, with over 2,000 jobs expected and deliveries starting by the end of 2026.
The company has received over 100,000 reservations for its customizable electric pickup, priced at $25,000, with a refundable $50 reservation fee.
Slate’s focus on simplicity and modularity aims to offer basic, affordable electric transportation, challenging the high prices of current EV models in the market.
The company is also hiring for positions at its Warsaw plant and Michigan headquarters.

I hope they are successful. But EV’s have been around since the advent of automobiles. If you only need to drive around town and never across country they may be a viable solution. If I need to take a 500+ mile trip and can’t spend half a day waiting for a charging spot and time to do it then they don”t work.
