A Nappanee woman was hospitalized after crashing her SUV into a tree on County Road 6 west of County Road 21.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, as the driver, a 36-year-old woman, was heading eastbound in a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse. Deputies say she was traveling too fast for the rainy conditions when she lost control of the vehicle, fishtailed, and veered off the south side of the road, striking a tree.
The woman was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with complaints of chest and knee pain. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities cited her for driving at an unsafe speed. The vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage.
