Benton Township PD hoping to add a K9 officer

The Benton Township Police Department is hoping to add a K9 officer to their ranks.

The department currently doesn’t have a K9, though they’ve had them in the past. WSJM reports that they have plenty of work to keep a K9 busy, between plenty of activity in the community, the possibility of school outreach events, and the fact that I-94 runs through it.

Police Chief Greg Abrams, himself a former K9 handler, said the dog would be a great tool for the department and is seeking permission to apply for a grant. Some township trustees are skeptical, including the Township Treasurer, who pointed out that K9 units bring large liability costs. She noted that a previous Benton Township K9 was always biting people.
